The Need To Change Your Attitude Towards Your Work

In this word, if you want a change, the most important thing you need to change is your ‘attitude’ towards your work. If you work for someone, change your basic way of thinking and start working as if you own the company.

Stop expecting what your boss or the company should do for you, rather move your thought process in the opposite direction, and see what you can do for them. How can sales be increased, services improved, and expenses reduced.
This is one of the little unknown secrets behind the success of many people who have greatly progressed in life. It’s a mindset you need to develop to get attuned to the universal law of sow and reap. Once you give your company the seeds of hard work and dedication without any conditions attached, there’s no way—-you will not be noticed. The rewards will arrive in multiple ways through promotions, bonuses, and bigger responsibilities. In fact, the sky is the limit for the fellow who works in such a manner.

If you are a business owner, think about your products or services as if they are for your own use, and then set benchmarks for quality, performance, and price as you would expect to receive from others. Every business needs profits, but an enormous amount is not required at any given time.
Rather, it is a steady flow that takes a business higher and higher. Do you require a lot of food at one time to survive, or a regular daily supply? Any product or service that is high on value but low on price is bound to succeed in the long run.

After all, it’s not short-term profits that matter, but rather how you end up on the success ladder in the long run is the most pivotal factor in life. Your work, products, or services should always reflect the long run attitude.

A perfect example of the long run attitude is the rock group known as ‘The Eagles’, and they even have a song and album titled ‘The Long Run’. Over the last few years I have had the privilege to attend four of their concerts, including the latest— ‘History of the Eagles’. Mostly at every concert, they talk about how they broke up as a group in 1980 and reunited in 1994, and then they usually perform the song
‘The Long Run’, which has words like: Tused to hurry a lot, I used to worry a lot, did you do it for love, did you do it for money, we can handle some resistance if our love is a strong one, who is going to make it, we’ll find out in the long run.’ They claim this song and words truly describe the reasons that led to their breakup, reunion, unity, and the success that has come their way.

Incidentally, The Long Run was their last studio album before they broke up in 1980. As each of them went their separate way into solo careers, none found the kind of success they had attained as The Eagles’. I believe, the words of this song must have kept haunting them, as each member could very well relate to these meaningful lyrics—| used to hurry a lot, I used to worry a lot. Perhaps, the hurry and worry was one reason for all the stress that came and led to their breakup. Maybe, they kept asking themselves —Did I do it for love, or did I do it for money? The words-We can handle some resistance if our love is a strong one, and who is going to make it, we’ll find out in the long run, must have definitely paved the way for the reunion of the group in 1994.

When they got back together for an MTV presentation, one of the members, Glen Frey, remarked—that they never really broke up, but took a fourteen-year holiday. Such was the power and impact of the long run attitude. Since then, The Eagles have not looked back, and with each passing year have been soaring higher and higher, just like an eagle does. They have been touring extensively around the world and became the first rock group to perform in China. In July 2013, they began a new tour called ‘History of the Eagles ‘and have been repeatedly performing in major cities in the USA, Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, Europe, New Zealand and Australia to packed houses. When they announced three shows in January 2014 at the newly renovated Forum in Los Angeles, they got sold out in a couple of days, forcing them to add three more shows in the same month.

If the long run attitude helped The Eagles to change and reunite to become the greatest rock band in history books, there’s no reason why it cannot help you to become the greatest person you can possibly be. If you can get rid of your hurry and worry, if you start doing whatever you do with love, if you can handle some resistance and change your habit of procrastination, you will certainly make it in the long run.
